Austrian mega project: a wooden airport in the Philippines

Whether observation towers like on the Pyramidenkogel in Carinthia, warehouses or entire airports: the Austrian company Rubner Holzbau has made a name for itself in recent years
when it comes to complex timber construction solutions. Now the company is on their way to the Philippines where they’ll be landing at one of their self-made airports.

Even before the pandemic the Philippines heavily invested in infrastructure. A part of that includes investing in new international airports like the one here in Clark. "Clark International Airport" is also a fantastic example of the successful cooperation between Austrian companies
and local companies. Here, for example, Rubner GmbH built the wooden roof.

Before Clark, Rubner Holzbau was involved in building the "Mactan-Cebu International Airport". Clark and Mactan-Cebu airport were also two of the largest projects Rubner ever built worth 40 million euros. For Rubner Holzbau these orders also opened many doors for further projects in asia.

"Asia has developed into a very interesting and important market for us." says Anton Wanas, procurator of Rubner Holzbau. Meanwhile the company also has built over 15 other wood work projects in Singapore.

Just for the "Mactan-Cebu International Airport" alone, 4500 cubic meters of laminated timber were used. The 23 meter long arch truss halves were manufactured in Ober-Grafendorf in Lower Austria and shipped in three tranches over the Rhein-Main-Donau-Kanal and Antwerp to the Philippines.
